QUICK PRESENTATIONS
C. MATERIAL SIMPLICITY AND
EVANGELICAL POVERTY

The starkness of simplicity, poverty and solitude constantly summons us to lift up our hearts and inner vision to that Eternal Kingdom towards which hope impels us.

We are called as a Community, body and soul, into the “desert” to consecrate our lives fully to Heavenly Life.

OUR STRUCTURE: CHARACTERISTIC ELEMENTS OF OUR LIFE
A. THE BASIC CONTEMPLATIVE
FRAMEWORK

At the heart of our vocation are the hours spent in prayer, when our inner depths are called into God: into His Peace, His Presence, His Holiness, His Divine life. Prayer calls us to the generosity of Jesus and to share in the love He  has for His Father and the Church.

We have 6 hours of solitary prayer spread out into three segments of the day, and 6 hours of apostolic work. But there is also another structure for those who feel called to the same depth of consecration but with less solitary prayer and more apostolate. These Brothers live in a Religious house rather than individual hermitages. (See our schedule of life)

Solitude in our life is not to separate us from others, nor is it, for us, a total way of life. We desire it to be truly a “means”–an orientation –calling us to be just for God, all for God. The aloneness and simplicity of the hermitage graphically express this to us.

B. DIRECT SPIRITUAL APOSTOLATES

Next only in importance to the hours of solitary prayer as characteristic of our vocation is our summons to foster the call to God-intimacy within persons seeking to deepen in God-Life, and likewise to share the knowledge and love of the Church with those outside it. This is seen as the expected expression or flowering in Christ of prayer, gratitude and zeal for God’s glory, in accord with Jesus’ own generous heart to save and sanctify His brothers and sisters for the glory of His Father.” (Const. p. 8)

So our secondary purpose is to share the knowledge and love of God with others through two direct spiritual apostolates: the full evangelization of non-Catholics through door-to-door visitation; and the helping of others to deepen in prayer and the spiritual life especially through spiritual direction, talks on the spiritual life, private retreats available primarily on the monastery grounds and our Associate Program. These apostolates are integral parts of our life.
