The Society of Our Mother of Peace
History of the Society of Our Mother of Peace
The Society of Our Mother of Peace was founded in 1966 at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, by Father Placid
Guste. The original foundation was transferred to Springfield, Missouri in 1977. In the meantime, in 1971,
a second foundation was made in High Ridge Missouri, approximately 20 miles from St. Louis. A third
foundation was made in 1998 in the Philippines, and a fourth in Nigeria, Africa in 2002.
The Society has three branches: The Sons of Our Mother of Peace (Religious Priests and Brothers), the
Daughters of Our Mother of Peace (Religious Sisters), and a full–time Lay Members’ Community. The three
branches are united by the same spirituality and the practice of prayer, apostolic zeal and evangelical
poverty and simplicity, these three elements being combined in different degrees within each branch.
Each branch of the Society lives and works separately, but they come together in Chapel for the Eucharist
and the Liturgy of the Hours, as do retreatants and others.
Within the religious communities, an alternate structure or form is available for those who feel called to
the same depth of consecrated life, but with a more apostolic orientation and less solitude. These
Brothers and Sisters live in a convent or religious house closer to the city than the wooded areas used
by the original structure monasteries, which are called “Solitudes”. One such grouping began in July of
1976 in St. Louis City.

Prayer to Our Mother of Peace
O Mother of Jesus and our Mother full of grace,
bear His peace, His presence, His holiness, your Divine Son into our very souls.
Nourish our minds with His mind for lowliness,
our hearts with His heart for self-giving,
our souls with His soul for quietness, resting in His Father’s will
All our energies with His strength for zeal,
and with your holy, maternal love,
support each step of your little ones
as they strive to walk in His likeness.
Our Lay Members
The Lay Members’ Community has been with the Society of Our Mother of Peace from it’s very beginning. They
live on the property of Mary the Font Solitude in High Ridge, Missouri. The Lay Members are involved in the
Apostolate of direct evangelization and work related to it. This is a great option for those of you who want
to help our mission with your life skills.
