Our History

The Society is composed of two separate communities: the Sons of Our Mother of

Peace for Religious Priests and Brothers and the Daughters of Our Mother of Peace for Religious Sisters. It was born of an inner call to combine the contemplative and apostolic lives in a context of material simplicity in such a manner that the apostolic call would express rather than submerge the contemplative spirit.

Needless to say, there lies nothing unique in this desire. But the structural framework of the Society united with the spiritual orientation of St. John of the Cross is specifically ordained to intensify the contemplative-apostolic thrust.

The Society was begun in 1966 by Father Placid Guste in the (then) Diocese of Oklahoma City-Tulsa. A second monastery (Maria Fonte) was established in the Archdiocese of St. Louis in 1971 (in High Ridge Missouri). In 1977, the Oklahoma monastery was transferred to the Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau, Missouri (the name of this monastery is Queen of Heaven).

Later, in XXXX, we changed our name to Mary the Font. Our mission continued the same, but we now feel more accurately identified with Our Blessed Mother, who; “said yes to God” and became the fountain of the living water of God Incarnate.

How Blessed Among us Mere Humans is Mary? She is (like the first Eve is to Adam) one of; “our own kind” and yet, she so nicely repaired what; “our first mother” Eve failed in. Thank you Mary, you are The New Eve (not just; “a nice girl”). You are the only one of; “us humans”, who finally; “did the right thing” and said; YES! to God.

Our Love
Just how much love
should we give? Well,
we simply must go out
into the world, and see
how much Our Lord
asks of us.

Most of our generation
has never even given
the matter any thought.
Take some time to visit
Our Solitude and see if
you can “figure out”,
just how you can
personally “fit into” this
picture.

Thanks again for
visiting Our Site.
